highlight of the day.

Hello lovelies!

Many apologies to the long time of no blogging from me! Been a super busy time for me, between school, my new job, and moving. Phew! Anyway, finally finished all my assignments and midterms, getting a little more used to my job, and sort of more settled in the new place :D. Thought it would be a good time to blog something!

As you all know, I have a pretty recent obsession with highlighters. Heard a lot of good things about this particular product and decided I would give it a try, since I was running low on my last highlighter powder I had purchased.

Hard Candy's "So Baked Bronzer" in the shade "Tiki", is an awesome highlighter to add to your collection, if you don't already own it!

The label claims that is is a bronzer...but you don't really get the bronzing effect out of it. It has a subtle shimmer to it, just enough to highlight features of your face.

I use this highlighter on my cupid's arrow, the bridge of my nose, some under my eyes, and a little over my brows and along my jaw line - just to add a little bit of a shine.

If you are in need of a new highlighter and don't want to pay an awful lot for it - this is the perfect product for you. It does its job, is super cheap, and has really cute packaging! I would say that this is a definite "win, win" product!

Hope all you ladies are having a good November so far - getting a bit chilly here in Canada now, brrrr.

xoxo.

deep autumn plums.

hello girlies,

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend so far!

I have really been enjoying wearing all of the beautiful fall colours. I have been making a combination of wearing deep, dark plums on my nails, lips, and eyes. I am just absolutely in love with this shade!

Firstly, I will start off with my nail colour:

O.P.I.'s "Every Month is Oktoberfest", is a beautiful deep, dark, plum shade, with gorgeous undertones of red and blue. Depending on which way this polish hits the light, it can have many different shades ranging from dark blue, to an almost maroon red. I LOVE the way this colour looks on my nails, a lot of people are asking me what shade I am wearing too! It's just beautiful. It is a perfect shade for the fall season, along with matches some of the other looks I have been wearing as well.

My eye makeup I have been wearing lately:

The eye shadow I have been using for the outer corner of my eyelid, is L'Oreal's Color Infallible in the shade "Burning Black". I have no idea why they called it that, I see more of a purple than black...oh well! Anyway, this eye shadow is wonderful - very pigmented, perfectly coloured - it matches almost bang on with O.P.I's "Every Month is Oktoberfest". The only downfall, I found, of this eye shadow is that it is very powdery which makes it almost impossible to have no shadow fall down onto your lower cheek while trying to apply. It's a very simple fix though, just hold some tissue where the powder will fall and you will have no problems :).

For the base of this look, I used Maybelline's Color Tattoo in the shade "Painted Purple". I found this a perfect colour to bring out the intensity of the other shade "Burning Black". It also does a very good job at holding all the eye shadow in place, this look lasted me a whole night with no smudging.

Finally, I will finish my post with the lip look I have been deeply in love with lately:

This deep, plumy, vampy colour is M.A.C's lipstick in the shade "Dark Side". I was a little reluctant in using such a dark colour, since I do not own a dark lipstick like this. Turns out, it matches my fair skin tone perfectly. I feel awesome when I wear this lipstick, haha. It is another perfect fall colour to bring out within the season!

What are your most favourite fall colours to wear altogether?
Are you a fan of dark lipsticks?

Enjoy your Sunday <3

candles of the moment.

Happy October everyone!!

The leaves have now turned into fabulous shades of red, orange, yellow, && brown. Have been taking my camera outside a lot lately (got a newwww camera!!! how exciting is that?! Canon EOS Rebel T3i && I am absolutely in LOVE with it! So much better than the little Canon Elf I was trying to use. Loved that one to bits, but is in no way comparable to my new one!). Have been taking pictures of the beautiful trees && the ground buried in gorgeous colour.

Just this past weekend was Canadian thanksgiving. My family all got together at my parents house and we indulged our taste buds with a delightful turkey dinner. Was delicious!

While my parents were preparing the food, I decided to go to Bath and Body Works to pick up some candles to set the scent for the atmosphere for the get together. Let me tell you, BOY was I a little bit late in getting myself in there on time to get all the fabulous fall scents. ALL of the soaps were gone, && most of the three wick fall candles were gone as well.

Luckily, I found a small counter with some single wicked candles. They had such a pretty design on the glass && was just a perfect size that I had to get them. If you don't want the large quantity that the three wick candles have to offer, yet want something that will last a little longer than the 4oz mini candles, these candles are perfect.

They had about four scents left, cannot remember them all because I was so delighted that  they actually had the scent "Leaves" left! Picked up two of the "Leaves" scent && " two of the "Farmstand Apple" scent as well, simply because they are such a perfect fall aromas.

I'm sure a lot of you already know what the "Leaves" candle smells like already! If I had to put it into words, the smell definitely reminds me of leaves, thanksgiving cooking, cinnamon, && best of all, reminds me of Halloween altogether (which, is a great definition of the month of October). It reminds me a little bit of the scent of mulled wine as well, if any of you have smelt that before. Bath and Body Works states that the scent "Leaves" is "[l]ike an afternoon spent playing in a pile of freshly fallen leaves, this fragrance embodies all the richness of the season and features a medley of ripe delicious apples, red berries and golden nectar". Well done Bath and Body Works! As usual, their scents are very very close to the actual label on the product. "Leaves"' happens to be a prime example!

If you are a fan of going to the apple orchard && picking out the finest, freshest apples - like I am - you will surely enjoy the scent of "Farmstand Apple". Let me tell you, this is an exact replica of an apple orchard scent. The smell of apple is just so apparent within this candle! As soon as I was done typing that sentence out, I checked the description of what Bath and Body works states about this candle, && look what they said!: "This sparkling orchard favorite reminds us of a bright sunny day picking apples. Made with notes of McIntosh apple, ripe pear blossom and woodsy oak". Like I said, very apple orchard-y.

Very pleased with these scents, lit them during the thanksgiving get together, && have them constantly burning throughout my apartment :).
I have found the true essence of fall.

What have you been doing to enjoy the autumn season?
What are some of your favourite Bath and Body Works candles?

NOTD: Essie's "Sole Mate"

hello beauties,

enjoying the fall season so far?

I am indeed enjoying the crisp, fresh air along with all of fall's beautiful warm colours.

As one of fall's seemingly most popular colours, I thought I would give a shade of burgundy a shot.

A lot of ladies are using Essie's "Bahama Mama". I am wanting to purchase that shade of polish, but to change things up I used a different shade of burgundy/plum.

Essie's "Sole Mate" is a darker shade of burgundy/plum. I find it to be a beautiful fall colour - a very deep and warm colour.

Yet, another Essie nail polish that had great consistency and a nice shine to it. With two coats of this polish, my nails were completely opaque.

Will definitely be painting my nails with this one again throughout the cooler seasons.

What is your current favourite fall polish?

Hope you ladies are all having a nice week!

sunday sephora haul. :D

Hello lovelies,

Haven't been in much of a blogging mood this past week. Suffering from an awful cold. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I caught the worst of what is going around here. Just starting to feel better today, thank goodness!

Since I felt that I could move once again, I decided to take myself to the shopping mall. Wasn't particularly aimed at any specific store, just glad to get out for a bit, socialize with people - enjoy the gorgeous fall air.

Well, where do I find myself???

That's right!! Couldn't be anywhere else but the Sephora! Just can't seem to help myself - my body leads me to the make up!

Picked up a few things, including that beautiful eyeliner I posted above.

I don't usually wear anything but black liner. I have all sorts of eyeliners, but they all happen to be in boring black. So, I decided to kick into the fall season with buying a few eyeliners that weren't so, well, black. Lol.

The first eyeliner that caught my eye was Sephora's - waterproof, smoky, creme eyeliner in the shade "Made in Manhattan". I have never tried any of Sephora's creme eyeliners. They aren't too, too expensive either. A lot more than what you would pay for something you could pick in a drugstore, but it is well worth the extra approximately seven dollars.

The consistency of this eyeliner is wonderful! So creamy, so pigmented, and has a beautiful, subtle shimmer to it. The product seems to last all day on my lid as well, which is particularly pleasing because I find it hard to find liners that will stay on my lid all day without a little bit of smudging or fading.

When I was looking through the shades of Sephora's creme eyeliners, I was a little bit skeptical to buy something that was not black liner. However, I pushed myself to make the change in order to feel not so boring, lol...and let me tell you, I am so happy with my decision. The shade of this colour is so beautiful, it is not too far from the black shade either - which is perfect because I didn't want to make a dramatic change. It is a taupe-y colour with a beautiful deep blue undertone. The picture really does not do it any justice. Will do a make up look with this liner soon, and will show you guys.

Second liner I bought, was not too far off black either (really wanted to stay in my comfort zone, I guess, haha).

Oh, whatta you know? Brown! I had never bought any of the Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencils before, I have heard such good things about these eye pencils though. Picked it up in the shade "Demolition". Tried it, and it did not prove anyone incorrect. Perfectly pigmented and super easy to glide on (as the name says). It looks good as a very opaque line, or one that is smudged out as well. Very pleased with this product.

AND as it wasn't far from my birthday, I was able to obtain my free birthday gift from Sephora too!

I received a cute little package of Fresh's "Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo". It included the shades "Sugar Rose Fresh", which is a tinted pinkish, reddish lip balm, and "Sugar Fresh", which has no tint to it whatsoever.

I did not swatch these, simply because they are not really noticeably pigmented. They do provide a very moisturizing feel to your lips as well as a small gloss. The "Sugar Rose Fresh" is tinted a very subtle shade of light red.

For a free birthday gift, I am happy to have them. They are compact, so I can put them into the purse I'm using at school. They are also easy to use without a mirror, therefore, throughout the dryer, colder months, my lips will be chap free - if I use these often enough!

Phew, that seemed like a very long post, lol. Thanks for reading through!

What are some products you decided to buy in order to change up your make up collection?
How do you feel about the Fresh products (if you've tried them before)?

Hope you all had a great weekend!!

Yet, another Lush bath!

Helllllo!

Fall has certainly begun in Canada. Leaves haven't changed colour yet, but the temperature outside has changed quite a bit. Wearing long sleeved shirts and pants now. As much as I love the warm weather, beaches, tans, and bright colours - I'm ready for the fall - cute boots, warmer + darker colours, and best of all, more baths (which means more Lush products)!

I broke the fall season in with one of my favourite scented bath bombs from Lush - "Vanilla Fountain".

I love taking a bath with this bomb! The scent it so relaxing! If you are a vanilla fan, you will definitely like this bath bomb! Your nose will be infused with the scent of a luxurious, delicious, vanilla-y treat!

Lush says "...indulging in a Vanilla Fountain Bath Bomb creates an eruption of fragrance like you were bathing in a bowl of creme caramel, and makes your sweet tooth tingle. It also has the added benefit of moisturizing too, so your skin will feel great after you depart the vanilla waters".

I will end this post by saying their description is bang on - I love how this bath bomb deeply moisturizes my skin and leaves a delicious vanilla scent on it as well.

What is your favourite Lush product (annnnything out of the Lush store)!

happy tuesday!

NOTD: Essie 'Merino Cool'

Hey everyone!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! Another Sunday night (or should I say Monday morning) where I can't sleep. So taking this bit of time to write a blog post about the nail polish I decided to wear for the weekend/second week of school. It's a perfect colour for fall, wore it a lot during this season last year!

As I've said before, Essie's polish never lets me down. Its consistency is very good and I only needed two coats to make this look completely opaque. The polish was easy to put on my nails, therefore, making my job a lot easier! :)

The colour of this polish is a greyish, purple - very mauve. It's the perfect colour to help ease off the bright, exciting colours of the summer.

I am very pleased with the finished look - shiny, no air bubbles, and best of all - no streaks! :)

Another Essie polish that has lived up to the task at hand! :P

Here's to hoping this manicure will last me the whole week!

What is your favourite Essie shade? What nail polishes do you enjoy to wear throughout the fall?

Hope you all have a great Monday - ew Monday. :P

loving this eye shadow!

Hello all,

Hope the weather is better where you guys are, than what is going on here - cold and pouring rain all day! Which makes driving around a little bit difficult, sooo going a little bit stir crazy in my house right now! However, going to have myself a nice Lush bath later on :)

Today I am posting about my most favourite eye shadow colour right now. I think it is perfect for fall too! Always been a fan of M.A.C. products, especially their very highly pigmented eye shadows! The shade I have been using is not a new item to the M.A.C. line of eye shadows...but perhaps a very well known one?

M.A.C.'s eye shadow 'Woodwinked' is my go to eye shadow right now. You can make it look lighter if you dab a bit on the eye lid and then blend it out, OR you can make it very opaque by using more of the product. The colour is very bronzy and kind of reminds me of fall leaves a bit...haha. I absolutely love its shimmer and the way it makes my eyes POP! It perfects my back to school look as well. Overall, I think this is a perfect eye colour to wear throughout the fall and winter months :).

Hope you are all having a wonderful Saturday!

What is your favourite M.A.C. eye shadow colour??

NOTD: O.P.I. "Your Villa Or Mine"

Hello all,

The long weekend of September is here, along with my birthday celebrations! Since my birthday is coming up, my Mom decided to treat me to a pedicure and manicure. I didn't take any pictures of my toes, but I fell in love with the polish on my nails! Of course, I chose an O.P.I. nail polish - "Your Villa Or Mine" - a very pretty coral-y, pink colour, with undertones of a gold shimmer. It is beautiful!

I loved the colour so much, I ended up buying it. This way, if the manicure chips, I will be able to touch it up. The polish is very opaque and looked like it was very smooth to apply. So far I haven't gotten many chips, just a couple tiny nicks that I need to touch up. Overall, very pleased with this polish! :)

What is your favourite O.P.I. shade?

Have a very good long weekend everyone!

DIY makeup brush holders (or whatever else you choose it to be!)

Hello all,

As you all probably know already, I am an avid YouTube watcher, especially when it comes to the beauty gurus. I'm sure a lot of you know Ingrid or should I say 'missglamorazzi'. She made a YouTube video a while back on these. I will put the link here, in case any of you want to see it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRPvlXJbzGI&list=UU5zSySQab9SA6Wz569WDgqw&index=1&feature=plcp

I used the same candles as her - Bath and Body Works' Slatkin and Co. However, I used different colours of glitterfrom her, I believe. For the Blue one I used - Recollections Micro Beads in the shade 'Ocean' and for the Rose Gold (looks more pink on camera than off camera) one I used - Martha Stewart's Coarse Glitter in the shade 'Rose Quartz'. They both turned out quite nice - although, I would not recommend using the Micro Beads because you do not get the awesome coverage like the coarse glitter does. It looks really cool, but there are some sections that I am not happy with.

Annnnyway, this is the finished product for the Blue one. I decided to use this one for my make up brushes, simply because the colour matches with my bathroom. I am not completely sure as to what to use the Rose Gold one for, but I'm sure I will have no problem figuring it out.

I'm quite happy with the way this craft turned out, I will be making more of these in the future - as Ingrid mentioned, they would be nice to give out as little gift basket style things, haha.

Hope you enjoy the look of these - all the products I used are in the top part of the collage style picture I have placed above - minus the craft brush that I used to spread the Mod Podge (which, by the way, comes in matte or gloss, I just used the matte one for these).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Xo.

Saturday 14 July 2012

early saturday morning bath.

Hello everyone,

Today is an exciting day for me, as there is a festival happening in my city and some of my favourite music artists are going to be there! I woke up earlier than I usually do (for a Saturday) and decided I wanted to use some one of my Lush products ( I want to buy more bath bombs, but I made a deal with myself - that I have to finish the ones I already own in order to justify buying new ones lol ). The bath I had was simply wonderful.

Lush's 'Honey Bee' bath bomb had the most delicious scent! As the bath bomb fizzed away in the warm water, my nose was filled with honey, toffee, and sweet orange scents! The water became infused with moisture - which made my skin feel silky smooth and quenched to the fullest. It was a perfect way to calm down my excitements and I was able to enjoy the morning thoroughly.

I would have to say the only down side to this bath bomb is that it turns the water into a colour that resembles urine haha. BUT if you can get past the physical look of the water, the scents you will encounter are absolutely worth it :). Plus your skin will feel so smooth and fresh - you will feel renewed, I promise.

Annnnnyway, hope you are all having an awesome Saturday! I know I will!

Favourite Lip Products (for now hehe.)

Hello Everyone!

I know it has been quite some time that I have blogged, but it has been so nice out that I just haven't really been sitting by my computer often enough. I've been doing a lot of instagramming though - so if you have instagram - add me  @arussel1.

Anyway, since it has been so nice out, I have been attending a lot of BBQ's and parties. When I attend these events I like to have a burst of colour on my lips, with more neutral make-up around my eyes.

This lipstick suits many of the events I have been attending:

M.A.C.'s Viva Glam - Nicki is such a pretty, bright, sort of coral-y pink colour. It really does look like a shade of lipstick Nicki Minaj would wear. I absolutely love it! I carry it around with me at all times.  Yes, I do admit, it isn't an easy lipstick to apply, you definitely need a mirror in order to make sure it gets on every little corner of your lips or it won't look right. But it is definitely worth the work, and doesn't take all that long anyway.

I simply love the packaging, it is the traditional M.A.C. packaging, but has a little flare with the added deep red colour and the signature of whomever the Viva Glam Product is inspired by. In this case, I have a little autograph of Nicki's on my lipstick. Yes, I listen to Nicki Minaj's music, lol, so I do like having an autograph of hers. Just need to work on getting a real autograph sometime lol - I live in an area of Canada where artists don't really come very often though, so that's highly unlikely :( .

The colour of this lipstick is very profound! It is very pink, so if you enjoy the colour pink - this lipstick is for you! It is  very bright on my lips, so I tend to wear more neutral make up surrounding it, therefore not too much is going on, on my face.

This is what it looks like on my lips. As you can see I am not over exaggerating on how pink the shade is. But that is what I simply love! I like how pigmented it is, and how bright it is. And it's summer time, and the brights are in style - this is the perfect time to pull off a bright coloured shade of any sort!

Sometimes to add a shine to the lipstick, since it is really matte, I add a lip plumper product to it.

Buxom is a new name that has been added to my make up collection. I had never used it before, but when I saw it in my local Sephora, I just loved all the colours and how the product worked. Soooo, I picked up a Lip Plumper product in the shade 'Creamsicle'.

Its shade is much like the Nicki colour, bright and pink. It has more of a coral undertone though, so it isn't quite so bright! Therefore, when I add this on top of the lipstick it sometimes tones down the brightness of the lipstick.

This is what the shade looks like on its own, it does look pretty bright in this picture, but it really does not look this way on the lips.

When I add this to the lip stick, it gives it a more shiny, smooth effect. And the product really does plump my lips. Not into crazy, huge lips! But it just adds a little bit of a fuller look. I feel that I have very small lips, so this product helps me immensely.

Overall, I love how these two colours look. They are my two favourite shades to wear throughout the summer!

What are your favourite lip products? Would you dare wear a bright colour, like this on your lips?

Happy Monday everyone! I promise I will try to blog more often!

Monday 4 June 2012

some summer shower gel scents.

hello everyone!

I'm sort of a shower gel fanatic, and I found a perfect summer scented one at Sephora a while ago, but haven't blogged about it yet. Another shower gel that I am absolutely loving at the moment is one that can be found at a local drug store and is very well known.

Sephora is well known for selling Philosophy products, and the scent I chose is "Senorita Margarita". It smells exactly how a lime margarita would. It is just so fresh smelling and matches perfectly with the season. If  you enjoy a margarita on a hot summer day, try enhancing your sense of smell with this lovely product while you shower! It makes me feel like I'm on a nice vacation somewhere tropical whenever I shower with this product. It is a creamy green colour, and when using a loofa, suds up quite nicely. It leaves your skin feeling fresh, smooth and clean - along with a hint of lime margarita scent lingering on your skin.

The second shower gel I have been using it Soap & Glory's "Clean On Me". It is very moisturizing, so whenever I feel the need to quench my skin, this shower gel does the trick. I love how it has a pump on the bottle as well - it makes it super easy to use in the shower. It smells absolutely delicious as well(much like all the other Soap & Glory products).

These are my top two shower gels at the moment, what are yours? Would you use a margarita flavoured shower gel on your skin?

Happy Monday everyone! 4

NARS haul.

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I posted something, but I've been really busy. Finally decided to sit down and try and post something.

Sooo, I had never owned anything NARS before, but I had heard and seen amazing reviews on NARS products. Went to my local Sephora and went a little bit NARS crazy. I'm in love with all of the products, I wish I could buy all of them!

Instead of draining my wallet completely of all its money, I bought some of the basic make up I thought I needed out of the NARS products.

First off, I wanted some NARS blushes:

The packaging of the NARS products are simple, yet gorgeous at the same time.
I love how compact the packaging is, and it has a nice feel to it when you touch it.

The first blush I bought was the shade "Desire".

It's a very nice, light, but bright pink. It really accentuates my cheekbones and I love wearing this on a summery day with a nice sun dress and neutral eye colour.

The second blush I fell in love with was the well known NARS shade: "Orgasm".

I absolutely love the coral tone to this shade of blush and the shimmer it adds to your skin as well. I wear this blush almost every day now, I like to pair it with more elegant colours (darker eye make up). It reminds me a little bit of a rose gold shade, which happens to be a very popular colour this season.

I am a new lover of highlighting products. I came across this highlighting stick and I cannot stop using it!

The shade I chose is "Copacabana". There were a few darker shades,  but I preferred the lighter one, simply because I feel it will highlight my skin tone more. I love the shimmer it gives off, it turns out that this shade is a perfect fit to my skin tone <3.

Third items I looked at were the lipsticks. Let me just say, NARS' lipstick is so creamy and matte on my lips. I LOVE the way these lipsticks look/feel!

I am very happy with the purchases I made! Going to be wearing a lot of NARS products within the near future lol.

Let me know what your favourite NARS product is :)

xo.

May 24 Weekend BBQ

Hello everyone,

So today I am heading to a BBQ with friends and family in order to celebrate the long weekend. I wanted to have a summer look on my toe nails. It is very warm here today, so perfect for a sun dress and summery nail polish on both toes and fingers.

While I was with my younger cousins a couple weeks ago, they took me to Claire's - a store that is for pre teens and teens mainly. I randomly saw these nail polish strips for my toes. I had never seen strips for the toe nails, only for my finger nails. I found a really pretty print and thought I would give it a shot.

The colours are very bright and noticeable. The design is very hippy-ish, which I really like. They were a bit harder to put on than the Sally Hansen nail strips I use for my finger nails. You can really tell that the product is made from cheap materials. It was very hard to file off the excess, but I managed. The finished look is worth it though. This would be an almost impossible design to create with your own hands, therefore the hard work paid off :). Once I put a top coat on it, the polish strips did not budge from my toe nails.

So I have pretty looking toe nails to wear to the BBQ now. Not entirely sure I would purchase this product again, simply because it was kind of difficult. I think I will just settle for regular polish on my toe nails, for now.

What do you think about the design of my toe nails? Have you ever tried polish strips for your toes before?

sunday brunch.

Hello everyone!

So on Sunday, as it was Mother's day, my cousins and I cooked a brunch for all the mothers. I took some pictures of the food and thought it would be cool to blog them. Which is kind of out of the ordinary  because it is not make-up, but I'm proud of the pictures I took and thought I would share them with all of you.

My extended family is quite a lot of people. We had to cook a lot of food, but it turned out fabulously!

Our buffet style - gluten free sausages, bacon, and scrambled eggs.

These are mini cheese cakes - cup cake style. They are also gluten free, which is a plus because some people in my family have a gluten sensitivity called Celiac. They were absolutely delicious, and super easy to make! I think they look very pretty as well.

The dining room set up. I went for a spring look - bright colours and shiny cutlery.

My cousin made these home made, gluten free home fries. They were absolutely delicious! And were very easy to make as well.

We cheated and bought the fruit tray instead of making our own. We were short for time anyway, so it helped not having to cut up all that fruit! We just used vanilla yogurt for the fruit dip.

Home made meat pie. One of the family's favourite dishes.

We also cheated on the muffins, we did not make them from scratch. Bought them from a grocery store in Canada named Sobey's. They were actually quite moist and almost tasted like they were home made. Would definitely buy these again.

Shrimp rings happen to me my family's most favourite appetizers. Placed that on the table before the main meal.

Last but not least, strawberries for our traditional Mother's Day Brunch bevarage - Mimosa's.

All in all, we made a wonderful Mother's Day Brunch, it all came together quite nicely. Stressful to entertain a lot of people (cleaning, preparing food etc.) but it was all worth it. I know that this is not a make up review. But I do like to share little points of my life with all of you as well sometimes!

Hope you all had a nice Mother's Day!
